It's February, and that can only mean one thing: the 2020 User Forum!

Although Frankfurt Airport might not be everyone’s idea of a top tourist destination, it was certainly worth the journey for the 2020 BID3 User Forum. It was a journey through the forward curve, tripping the (nodal) light fantastic

The morning was all about modelling the forward curve: we kicked off with a presentation on how one of our clients has implemented forward curve modelling using the Short Term module. An effective implementation that allows them to automatically run BID3 overnight, sucking in the latest weather data and commodity curves, so their traders have a base case and a range of weather and sensitivities to chew on over their morning cup of coffee.

We also covered AFRY’s own forward curve modelling set-up (working with Energy Quantified) called BID3live and talked about the latest outlook.

Nodal pricing was one of the exciting new developments appearing in BID3 shortly, and we had an introduction to the test implementation in Mexico. Ay caramba!

The Mid Term Adequacy Forecast was next up, and we learned how to model future adequacy (and also some things to avoid).

Finally, a bit of Brazilian brilliance to finish, looking at the complexities of cascades and how hydro modelling in BID3 can deliver pretty good results if you put the right data in (spoiler alert: don’t double count!)
